Maxine Rowson also known as “Max” or “Bird” was born on October 13 th
1951in Columbia, North Carolina to the late Lacy Rowson and Goldie Hill
Rowson. She was the sixth child of ten children. When she was young, she
attended and joined Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Columbia, North Carolina.
Maxine attended Tyrrell County public schools and graduated from Columbia High
School in 1971. After graduating, Maxine moved to New York City with her
sisters. She was employed at White Castle where she started out as a team member
and worked her way up to District Supervisor. As District Supervisor, she oversaw
the daily operations of 7 -10 White Castle stores, this included everything from
customer service, quality control, budgeting and labor costs. She served as a
mentor to many during and after her retirement in 2011. Maxine made herself
available to employees that needed guidance or had questions.
Maxine lived life and enjoyed being around family and friends. She loved speaking
with anyone and everyone. She made friends wherever she went. She loved
shopping and enjoyed traveling to different places with her cousin Shirley James.
Maxine was very fond of her favorite niece Sonji Keyes. She would travel during
the summer months to spend time with her in North Carolina.
Maxine was preceded in death by her brothers, Carlton and Terry Rowson; and her
son, William Jr. She leaves to cherish her sisters: Carolyn Bryant, Geraldine
Rowson, Sadie Davis, Sandra Purington (William), and Chris Rowson: Brothers:
Charles Rowson and Von Rowson (Rose); Special friends: Carmen Vazquez,
Eugene Miller and neighbors Ms. Viola and Ms. Rosetta along with a host of
nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Maxine lived a life full of family, friends and laughter. She touched many lives and
will be remembered fondly.
