**Mamie Kate Vining**
March 20, 1940 – May 2, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mamie Kate Vining, age 85, who left us peacefully on Friday morning, May 2, 2025, at Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx, New York. Mamie was born on June 20, 1940, in Bartow, Georgia, to the late Eddie and Trudie H. Vining.
Mamie's journey took her from Georgia to cities across the country, reflecting her adventurous spirit and determination. After leaving Georgia at an early age, she settled in Long Beach, California, with her beloved Uncle Rev. Handy Vining, where she completed her high school education. Her journey continued to Charleston, South Carolina, and ultimately led her to Manhattan, New York, where she made cherished memories living on Delancey Street. Later, she found her home in the Bronx, a place where she would continue to cultivate connections and friendships until her passing.
A dedicated worker, Mamie committed over two decades to the retail industry, spending more than ten years each at Mays Department Store and Saks Fifth Avenue. She later worked part-time at Hard Rock Café before earning her CNA certification in Syracuse, New York, and dedicating herself to caring for others at Loretta Nursing Home until her retirement. In 2005, she returned to the Bronx, where she embraced the love and support of her family and friends during her long-term illness.
Mamie's vibrancy shone through in her love for scratch-off lottery tickets and her enjoyment of watching shows like "Deal or No Deal" and "Wheel of Fortune." She had a zest for life that inspired those around her.
She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Demitrius Wingo and Gregory Vining, and her daughter, Sheila Vining, all of whom reside in the Bronx. Mamie is also survived by daughter-in-law Brenda Vining (Darrell) from Woodbridge, Virginia, and a beautiful legacy of eight grandchildren: Demitra Wingo, Demetrius Tyrell Wingo (affectionately known as Papa), Michael Vining of the Bronx, Tekari Justice Wingo of Tampa, Florida, Dionte Vining, Jaquan Vining, Tia Vining of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Daquita Vining of Charlotte, North Carolina. She was blessed with eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild as well.
Mamie leaves behind two cherished sisters, Shirley (Pastor Will) Palmer of Manassas, Virginia, and Trudie M. Vining of Wadley, Georgia, along with a loving brother-in-law, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends whose lives she touched deeply.
As we celebrate Mamie's remarkable life, we remember her kindness, her strength in the face of adversity, and her unwavering love for her family. She will forever be missed and fondly remembered in our hearts. May her soul rest in peace.
