Lamar was born on April 15, 1985, to Alicia Lyons and Wayne Vanderhorst, two young adults from Amityville, Long Island. He thrived under the devoted love and guidance of his grandparents, Cyril and Millicent Marcellin.

Lamar shared his childhood with his siblings—Jamel, Shantell, Monique, and Skylar—and their loving grandparents, who filled their lives with faith, laughter, good food, and annual trips to Disneyland. Those memories shaped a bond that time will not break.

Lamar navigated life on the shoulders of his ancestors, facing the challenges and earning the rewards of being a Black man in America. Educated in the Bronx, New York, Lamar boldly enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2004. He rose to the challenge, earning recognition as a Submariner and Electrical Communication Technician.

After his service, Lamar pursued higher education with the same determination. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the New York Institute of Technology, then obtained a Master of Science in Computer Science and Interactive Intelligence from the Georgia Institute of Technology. His accomplishments led him to a role as a Mathematical Statistician for the U.S. Census Bureau.

Through life’s journey, Lamar formed two significant relationships, and from those, he found his greatest pride—his daughters, Layla and Alanna Lyons.

He is survived by his loving mother, Alicia Lyons, and his stepfather, Wendell Evans, as well as his paternal grandmother, Eula Vanderhorst, and the maternal matriarch, Claretha Robinson. Lamar leaves behind his siblings—Jamel, Shantell, Monique, and Skylar Lyons—who will cherish his memory and the lessons they shared.

In addition, Lamar was loved by his aunts, uncles, niece, and four nephews. He will be deeply missed by countless friends and relatives who were touched by his kindness, strength, and unwavering spirit.

Most importantly, Lamar is survived by his two beloved daughters, Layla Lyons (age 14) and Alanna Lyons (age 11), who were the light of his life. His legacy of perseverance, love, and brilliance will continue through them and all who knew him.
